WHAT IS LASER DENTISTRY?
Laser dentistry is the use of lasers to treat a number of different dental conditions.
Laser has many uses and the wavelength of the Laser changes according to the type of therapy we are giving. It is essentially light energy being dispersed in a narrow concentrated beam.
Laser dentistry potentially offers a more comfortable treatment option for a number of dental procedures involving hard or soft tissue compared to drills and other non-laser tools.
BENEFITS OF LASER DENTISTRY
Minimise the need of sutures
Minimise the need for anesthesia
Less damage to gums shortens the healing time
Less bleeding and swelling
High accuracy and precision during gum contouring
TYPES OF LASER TREATMENT
In DentistsCo, we perform various types of laser treatment involving lengthening crowns, restricted tongue movement, reshaping of gum, soft tissues as well as teeth whitening.
In Dentists Co, teeth whitening gel is activated using laser at a very consistent wavelength. This goes on for a total of 4 minutes to get the most optimum result. With such a short period of exposure time, teeth sensitivity is no longer an issue anymore.
Treat Infected Tissues
Laser also allows us to remove damaged tissues or to treat infected gum tissues without damaging surrounding structures. This gentle procedure acts as an adjunct to the mechanical therapy i.e. scaling & polishing to promote blood flow for faster healing.
Treat "Gummy Smile"
When it comes to Smile Designing, teeth hidden under thick overgrown gums look short and you may appear to have ‘ Gummy Smile’. Removing excess gum using Laser will have you in and out of our clinic with no downtime at all.
POST-OPERATIVE EXPECTATIONS OF DENTAL LASERS
Easier Procedure with Faster Recovery
Whether you’re having laser gum surgery or hard tissue work, expect an easier procedure and a shorter recovery time. Laser dentistry is a convenient solution to many oral and dental problems, whether serious in nature or simply cosmetic.
Far Lesser Bleeding
Laser causes far less bleeding than a scalpel, you won’t have an open bleeding would the way you would with a scalpel procedure. These lasers are ideal for cutting into soft tissue and sealing the exposed blood vessels at the same time. While you should still follow cleaning and care instructions, you’re less likely to get an infection.
This is usually done after a thorough scaling and polishing procedure, laser removes infected tissues while preserving healthy tissues.
Patients usually go through 1 to 2 rounds of laser therapy depending on your condition. You may start to see a difference in your gum healing within 1-2 weeks.
All dental lasers are USA FDA approved. Our dentists are all certified and trained specifically for the laser device at our office.
At most, you would only feel a warm sensation. We will be giving you a protective pair of glasses to wear throughout the operation as a safety measure for your eyes. When in doubt, please ask our doctors!
